{"id":361,"date":"2012-05-09T16:49:00","date_gmt":"2012-05-10T00:49:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/whiskeybeforebreakfast.wordpress.com\/?p=361"},"modified":"2012-05-09T16:49:00","modified_gmt":"2012-05-10T00:49:00","slug":"29-boiler-touchups","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/ckhollidayplans.com\/blog\/29-boiler-touchups\/","title":{"rendered":"29: boiler touchups"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Fullerton RR day last weekend was a lot of fun, and I even learned a thing or two!<\/p>\n<p>DLR did not bring out an engine to show this year, but they had the Lilly Belle the coach and the display boiler&#8211;the same boiler that is kept in the roundhouse as a learning tool:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/whiskeybeforebreakfast.files.wordpress.com\/2012\/04\/sd042307m.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/whiskeybeforebreakfast.files.wordpress.com\/2012\/04\/sd042307m.jpg\" alt=\"\" title=\"sd042307m\" width=\"500\" height=\"338\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-313\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Now it has been painted to make identifying parts of the boiler easier. There were some parts that needed changing, mainly:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Change flues from 2&#8243; OD to 1&#8243; OD<\/li>\n<li>Change the t-pipe from welded to bolted connection<\/li>\n<li>Change number of stay bolts across the boiler<\/li>\n<li>Add tube sheet bracing above the firebox<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>And I finally have access to the ashpan.<\/p>\n<p>My updated model is below:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/whiskeybeforebreakfast.files.wordpress.com\/2012\/05\/5-9-2012-4-48-51-pm.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/whiskeybeforebreakfast.files.wordpress.com\/2012\/05\/5-9-2012-4-48-51-pm.png?w=600\" alt=\"\" title=\"5-9-2012 4.48.51 PM\" width=\"600\" height=\"375\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-366\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/whiskeybeforebreakfast.files.wordpress.com\/2012\/05\/5-9-2012-4-45-13-pm.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/whiskeybeforebreakfast.files.wordpress.com\/2012\/05\/5-9-2012-4-45-13-pm.png?w=600\" alt=\"\" title=\"5-9-2012 4.45.13 PM\" width=\"600\" height=\"375\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-368\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The ashpan has a narrow grate at the bottom to allow embers to be cleared out and air to flow in. There&#8217;s also a 12&#8243; access panel bolted to the bottom.<\/p>\n<p>The sand dome base, made of cast iron, is attached to the boiler below.
